Private Memory as Public Archive With Jana Mladenovic

The world feels like a lot right now. It moves fast, yet certain images, headlines or events stay with us. Many of us carry one or more political struggles close to our hearts. Inspired by my own practice, this workshop invites participants to write a short, intimate reflection or diary entry related to political events and translate it into textile form, through coded stitching, embroidery, or layered fabrics. You don’t need to keep a diary or know how to embroider. In this workshop, we will start from a thought, a feeling, or something you saw or read, and collectively translate it into a tangible form of resistance and archiving using thread and fabric. I invite you to use these feelings and stitch in resistance together.

Goal:

  • A fabric-bound zine or “emotional protest archive”
  • To elevate private emotional processing into a shared act of resistance and archiving.
  • We foster care while handling emotional complexity, and embodied political engagement.<br
