Slavicare community welcomes the winter with a cinematic duffle coat!

On December 11th, Antwerp’s Slavicare community welcomes winter with a cinematic duffle coat during SLAVICARE KINO, hosted by Het Bos and De Cinema. Join our fluffy cushion-filled cinema at Het Bos for a special double-bill, followed by a brief collective reflection session and some fortune-telling as well.

Werner Herzog’s BELLS FROM THE DEEP (1993) doesn’t offer anything close to a complete picture of what might be imagined as “Russian faith”. Instead, in the period following the fall of the Soviet Union, Herzog reflects on this notion, making clear that there is no homogenous way of believing as well as no so-called “Russian soul” or one “distinctive spiritual Russian path”, but rather coexisting contradictions, contrasts, and singularities—from the traditions of the Orthodox Church to shamanic rituals and rural beliefs.

Herzog’s film will be preceded by an episode of THE MOOMINS, a cultural phenomenon that transcends international borders and gained notoriety on both sides of the Iron Curtain. In the 1970s, Finnish author Tove Jansson personally authorised the first stop-motion adaptation of the troll-like creatures based on her books and comics. We will screen a TV episode, which is also part of the 2017 restored version of MOOMINS AND THE WINTER WONDERLAND, in which the Moomintroll wakes up early while the rest of the family is still in deep hibernation.

SLAVICARE KINO is a co-production between Het Bos and De Cinema. Pay-What-You-Can Tickets are available via Het Bos, starting from €3.
