Nina Marte Wilson is a cook and an artist who's experimenting in Het Bos. She will cook for us during Vruchtbare Grond in october.
We asked Nina some questions:
Tell us about your favorite medium.
Film might be my favorite medium. The freedom and possibilities make my head burst in the best way.
Where do you find inspiration?
Being and living in nature, myths, going to therapy, all kinds of systems, behavior, emotions, female body, documentaries about cults or aliens, my parents, historical objects, sea animals, folk music, cooking with specific ingredients, reading poems or other people’s diaries, things I don’t understand, things nobody understand.
What motivates you to create?
Ideally there is no answer to that question and the creating is already happening.
How do you define success as an artist?
Being lost completely, forgetting everything you think you know and at the same time taking care of yourself and understanding life can (and should be) simple sometimes. Balancing the two, staying curious, don’t make conclusions, love yourself.
Is there a specific environment or material that's integral to your work?
I tend to work with mirrors, glass, trees, leaves, clay, video, multiple versions of me, reflection, words, the body, paper, lines, stones, different natural landscapes, animation, tears. And ofcourse vegetables.
What are your ultimate career goals?
Challenging projects, going all the way, then buying a piece of land and starting an artist residency, welcoming people, looking back on this crazy time I was running around while holding a glass of natural wine and baking a bread in my outside stone oven.
Describe your ideal working environment.
The combination of a small studio in a city, close to people (things, stuff) and a wooden house in the forest, on a mountain, close to a waterfall, quiet and with a lot of fresh air.
Why do you want to make art?
I think it’s a better and clearer way of communication.
Do your other interests influence your art?
It’s all one.
Tell us about your techniques for overcoming creative blocks.
Accept. Walk for the sake of walking.
