Lukas Rys

resident Bosacademie

Lukas Rys is a resident in the concert hall in July. He will blow us away with a new show during Vruchtbare Grond.

We asked Lukas some questions:

Who are your biggest artistic influences? / Where do you find inspiration?

Aphex Twin, Björk, Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead are my biggest musical influences. But I try to look everywhere for inspiration and I keep a lot of notes.

What does your work aim to say?

Lately I’ve started writing more music through storylines and characters. I wrote some songs about a person bleeding to death in an office room in the future and found that it was a great way to talk about themes that are close to me (like love, transhumanism, gender, wanting to live in a house in the forest…). I don’t know exactly where it’s going, but I want to find out.

What’s the purpose or goal of your work?

I want to put some feelings or images that I have in my head into music so that they become clearer to me and hopefully others will resonate with it too. I try to make my music making process as fluid and intuitive as possible, to bring out ideas from the subconscious.

How can you benefit from this workplace?

The concert hall is a great place to experiment with music and lights. I’m looking forward to being there with the idea that I have now and just seeing what comes out and how it will change. I’d like to invite a few people over, musicians, but also people who know more about lights and scenography. Finally, I would love to be in an environment where other residents are doing their own thing. and maybe we can inspire each other or collaborate.
