Mieren bouwen hun nesten van bladeren, takken, zand en speeksel, wij mensen creëren onze leefomgeving van beton, asfalt en plastic. Theatermaker Lotte Boonstra is geboeid door hoe de mens massa creëert. Met MAN MADE MASS toont ze haar grootste performance-expositie in Het Bos tot nu toe. In een associatieve kluwen van landschappen, lichamen en objecten neemt Lotte je mee in een fantasievol en wrang universum. Een wereld waarin de mens als grootste beeldhouwer van het aardoppervlak verschijnt, en waarin levende en dode materie een duet met elkaar aangaan.
MAN MADE MASS is een levende installatie waarin 10 personen, variërend in leeftijd van 10 tot 67 jaar, zich verstild in een abstract landschap begeven. Ze zitten vast in massieve steenblokken, balanceren op een reusachtige weegschaal en dragen abstracte materie met zich mee. Samen worstelen ze zich door de grootsheid van de menselijke creaties, waarin ook de massa van het menselijk lichaam een rol speelt. Hoe verhouden onze lichamen zich tot de massa die ons omringt?

Ants build their nests from leaves, twigs, sand and saliva, while we humans create our living environment from concrete, asphalt, and plastic. Artist Lotte Boonstra is fascinated by how humans create mass. With MAN MADE MASS, she presents a large performance-exhibition. In an associative tangle of landscapes, bodies, and objects, Lotte takes you into an imaginative and grim universe. A world where humans appear as the greatest sculptors of the Earth's surface, and where living and dead matter engage in a duet.
MAN MADE MASS is a living scenography in which 10 people, ranging in age from 10 to 67 years, find themselves a still and abstract landscape. They are trapped in massive stone blocks, balance on a gigantic scale, and carry abstract matter with them. Together, they struggle through the vastness of human creations, in which the mass of the human body also plays a role. How do our bodies relate to the mass that surrounds us?
