Avatar Blue
uit het archief: Spencer Clark in Het Bos
In Maart 2019 resideerde Spencer Clark een maand in Het Bos. Hij installeerde er een week lang een Laserdisc Cinema, een in blauw gedrenkte Expo én een groots afsluitconcert met een gecureerde selectie vrienden. Nu exact één jaar later komt zijn album 'Avatar Blue' op vinyl uit via Discrepant Records. Een goede reden om even terug te blikken naar zijn project in Het Bos.
Spencer Clark is een muzikaal zweefvliegtuig dat er een intense productie op na houdt. Als labelbaas van Pacific City Soundvisions of onder verschillende monnikskappen genaamd Vodka Soap, Black Joker, Typhonian Highlife, Charles Berlitz of Monopoly Child Star Searchers brengt hij aan de lopende band platen uit.
Dit productieve projectiel wordt samen met artiesten zoals Ariel Pink, Ducktails, Emeralds en dikke vriend James Ferraro, waarmee hij het legendarische duo The Skaters vormde, wel eens de grondlegger van de Hypnagogische Pop genoemd. Een term die werd uitgevonden om hun muziek te kunnen labelen en die zoveel betekent als muziek die de staat van bewustzijn oproept die we ervaren tussen het moment van slaap en waak.
Avatar Blue is, naast de naam van zijn residentie in Het Bos, ook zijn meest recente plaat en is geconcipieerd als een alternatieve soundtrack voor het nog te verschijnen vervolg op Avatar, het 3D bioscoopsucces van James Cameron uit 2009.
Dat bracht zijn ontspoorde brein op het idee om een volledig programma op te zetten rond deze plaat.
Als voorbode van zijn residentie bracht Spencer het zo onder woorden:
"The transference of James Camerons' future film, AVATAR 2, into the ULTRA-PREHISTORIC world of the PRE-CAMBRIAN ERA is alive in SPENCER CLARK'S NEW ALBUM PREMIERE, AVATAR BLUE. In order to influence a positive outcome in the world of Hollywood, AVATAR BLUE will imbibe a morphed AVATAR being into a speculative historical time period of the Pre-Cambrian era; whence a large influx of oxygen poured into the oceans from volcanic aqueducts to create a multitude of bizarre underwater creatures. The hopefulness of a positive outcome for James Cameron's sequel to the dull and corporate, Avatar 1, will be portended by the invention of a speculative new AVATAR 2 world. The placement of the Avatar beings in a Pre-Cambrian world is a statement and gesture of personal power by the Imagineer, SPENCER CLARK.
During the week, of Avatar Blue, visitors will witness all the Art Objects used to make the Installation in the HET BOS GALLERY. Het Bos cinema will be flooded with LASERDISC cinemas showcasing the height of hollywood straight to video special effects in movies like: TC2000, HOLOGRAM MAN, ROBOCOP 2, THE ABYSS...etc. And on the final evening there will be in the concert hall performances of 4 Imagineers commishioned to invent 4 pieces for AVATAR BLUE: JAMES FERRARO, FRANCESCO CAVALIERE, LIEVEN MARTENS MOANA, and SPENCER CLARK.
