Minami Deutsch (JP)

Minami Deutsch is a krautrock band from Tokyo, Japan. Known as self-proclaimed “repetition freaks,” the band draws inspiration from psychedelic rock and minimal techno, but their true obsession lies in krautrock—a fact hinted at by their name, which translates to “South Germany.”

Founded by Kyotaro Miula in 2014, the band began by performing live on the bustling streets of Tokyo. Since then, they have released three albums through their local friend's label Guruguru Brain. Their hypnotic, motorik-driven sound has taken them across Europe and the United States, where they’ve shared stages with artists like Damo Suzuki, the former vocalist of the legendary krautrock band CAN.

Their third studio album, Fortune Goodies (2022), is a deep dive into the rich legacy of krautrock. Drawing from Miula's expanded musical vocabulary after relocating from Tokyo to Berlin, the album offers a uniquely Japanese perspective on the encyclopedia of Krautrock. In 2024, Minami Deutsch completed two North American tours, including supporting Earthless and performing at the Levitation Festival, further cementing their place as a leading voice in modern kraut/psychedelic music.

Weite

Weite is an instrumental psychedelic/progressive rock band from Berlin, Germany. Blending elements of psychedelic exploration, progressive complexity, electronics and cinematic soundscapes, the band crafts sonic journeys that will appeal to listeners of challenging, intricaterock music.

The project took shape in the winter of 2022 when Hamburg-based musician Jens Ingwer Boysen recruited a group of like-minded musicians: Nick DiSalvo (Elder, delving), Michael Risberg and Ben Lubin (Lawns). All multi-instrumentalists with backgrounds spanning progressive rock, punk, experimental and psychedelic music, the quartet initially came together for what was meant to be a one-off recording session at Berlin’s Big Snuff Studios, recorded by engineer Richard Behrens (credits including Kadaver, Elder and Samsara Blues Experiment) However, the quartet’s undeniable musical chemistry and shared creative vision convinced them to turn Weite into a fully- fledged band rather than a fleeting collaboration.

The result of these early sessions was "Assemblage" (Stickman Records), the band's debut album, released in the summer of 2023. True to its name, the four-track Assemblage is a sonic collage: fluid, dynamic, and deeply textural – melding elements of improvisation with carefully constructed arrangements and taking influence from 70s progressive rock, krautrock, post-rock and contemporary electronica. Bringing its music to the stage in summer 2023, the band welcomed keyboardist Fabien de Menou (Perilymph), whose expressive, accurate playing added new depth to Weite’s sound, enabling the band to faithfully reproduce Assemblage live. De Menou was subsequently asked to join the band full-time, expanding Weite’s lineup to a five-piece unit.

Following its debut, Weite continued refining its sound, incorporating a broader range of influences and compositional approaches. In the spring of 2024, the group to the studio to record their second full-length album, "Oase", released in November 2024 via Stickman Records. The album further expanded its sonic palette, embracing more cohesive songwriting yet retaining the hypnotic grooves, improvisation and electronics. Oase also incorporates a wider palette of influences, incorporating Americana, vintage “Canterbury-scene” progressive rock and even jazz. With an overwhelmingly positive reception, Oase earned the band much positive press, including “album of the month” in Visions magazine and reviews in several other leading rock magazines both domestic and international. The band embarked on its first full-length European tour in early 2025, bringing their immersive, instrumental sound to audiences around Europe and significantly growing the band’s fanbase. With a growing reputation for both its recorded output and live performances, Weite continues to evolve, pushing the boundaries of contemporary psychedelic and progressive rock.
