Mirte van den Bos

resident Bosacademie

Mirte lives in the Netherlands, but she's thrilled to have her residency in Het Bos in August. Check out her new work during Vruchtbare Grond festival on September 26!

We asked Mirte some questions:

Describe your dream project.

My dream project is to make an artistic musical about climate change together with other artists. In this musical, everything will be made of biodegradable materials, so when the musical is over, we can plant the costumes, instruments, decor, and script. In this way, we give the show back to the Earth.

Tell me about your techniques for overcoming creative blocks.

When I really gave myself permission to fail, it freed me. I am always very nervous right before a performance, and then I remember to myself how well I have practiced and that the most important thing is to have fun, not to perfectly remember your lines, hit the best notes, or make the most amazing artwork in the world. But it is a constant process for an adult to allow themselves to have fun.

Describe how art is important to society.

Art is so important because it is the essence of who we are as humans; we are able to express our individuality within a collective. We are able to dream and to materialize our dreams. Art is not only the works you see in galleries, museums or theaters. Art is all around and within us. In my opinion, art is about not being afraid, not for your own authenticity, and not for the other. Art is a celebration of differences and a critical way to feel and open up to problems within the collective.
